At the first budget workshop, city staff seemingly claimed credit for lower electric bills over the last 10 years without mentioning that natural gas prices collapsed in 2008.  Natural gas is the fuel that powers Tallahassee’s electric generating equipment.

From city power point:

Budget Workshop – Challenge accepted • Utility rate actions – Electric bills are 19% lower than they were ten years ago, and 31% below their level in 2008. – Tallahassee’s residential electric rates remain below the statewide average, and Tallahassee’s Small Business community enjoys the lowest rates in the State of Florida. – Utility customers are paying $150 million less annually than the rates in effect in 2008.
